USC Financial Aid, Loans Document, Appeal Forms, and Office Phone numbers

Overview

The University of Southern California, USC, offers financial aid to students.  The USC is now converting to the Federal Direct Loan Program from the 2010 academic year.  Financial assistance of some kind is given to nearly 60 percent of the students studying at this University.

Details of Financial Aid

USC offers one of the biggest financial aid programs in the United States for undergraduates, graduates, professionals, as well as international students.  The USC offers loans by taking part in the Federal Direct Loan Program.

One does not have to mandatorily demonstrate need for financial aid.  The loan may however be given based on credit.  The student borrowing for the first time from Federal Direct Stafford or Federal Direct Graduate PLUS loan from USC must initially complete entrance loan counseling.  This can be done online by using the FAFSA pin.

Additionally, the first time borrower must undergo an in-person session.  Finally the student must also finish the exit loan counseling.  All this can be done online.

Submission of Loans Document

The student must find the application form and all other required forms from the website.  He must thoroughly check up the status of the documents to be submitted.  Electronic documents can be uploaded.

Some documents have to faxed in which case cover and closing sheets have to be obtained.  from the document management system of the USC financial aid website.  He must get information regarding the various financial aid programs by selecting the tab of the Financial Aid Awards for the relevant year.

For new undergraduates the financial aid awards will be announced by April, for continuing graduates it will be announced by June and for graduate students the awards will be informed on rolling basis.

Uploading the documents is the best form of submission.  Instructions given on the upload page must be followed.  After submission of documents, if one wishes to view them again the Document ‘status’ of the relevant year can be chosen.

Appeal Forms

Many of the students applying for financial aid suddenly find that they are back to the Financial Aid Office to appeal for more money after the deadline is over.  In such cases the student has to file an appeal whereby they can get more money.

The student must submit documents pertaining to an employment loss, job change, economic downturn, some family problem, or any other circumstance causing the Appeal.

The Financial Aid office of the USC then re-evaluates their original documents and based on the increased need of the student the fund amount is revised.

However, this depends on the amount of funds available after all the awards have been given.  Though all appeals are not considered it is worth applying for an appeal form.
